Left Behind, a blockbuster in Christian book sales, hoped to become a 12 movie franchise, though the first film, starring Kirk Cameron, made an odd journey to video first, with a message at the end telling viewers the film was going to go to theaters afterwards, and they needed to spread the word. Megiddo: The Omega Code 2 was a $22 million flop. But it ended with antichrist Michael York being defeated, so they tried to go the Evil Dead route with a sequel that was essentially a remake, on a bigger budget. ![]() The Omega Code, a Revelation-inspired thriller that hid its religion from the marketing, was a surprise hit in 1999, almost doubling its $8 million budget, in part by cutting production costs through using producer Matthew Crouch's considerable assets (his parents were wealthy televangelists Paul and Jan Crouch).
